Chandigarh:Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Tuesday demanded that Bhagwant Singh Mann government must release Rs 50,000/acre compensation to farmers whose wheat crop has been destroyed by recent rain and hail storms.

Badal in a series of tweets asked, ‘What is he (Mr. Mann) waiting for?’

SAD president said there was complete destruction of crops in 20 lakh hectares adding that this was corroborated by agri experts.

Badal, referring to media reports, alleged that the revenue officials have been directed not to give maximum damage awards to farmers and added that this effectively means AAP govt was running away from giving even paltry compensation of Rs 15,000/ acre to the farmers.

He warned that SAD will launch an agitation in case of injustice done to farmers. He further said CM has failed to address farmers’ fears of more potential losses through value cuts.
