Sri Lanka: Official rubbishes reports of resignation of PM Rajapaksa

The reports said that the interim government may also include members of the Opposition.

Colombo: A Sri Lankan official on Sunday described media reports claiming that Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa may step down today, as rumours.

As per Information Department Director-General Mohan Samaranayake, “The rumours to the effect that the Prime Minister is going to resign have no basis to it.”

Earlier, reports in the Sri Lankan press spoke of possible resignations of Mahinda Rajapaksha and Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa and claimed that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa plans to form an interim government.

The reports said that the interim government may also include members of the Opposition.
