Gangtok: State-level Gawala Diwas (milkman day) was observed in this capital city of Sikkim on Friday.
It coincides with the foundation of Sikkim Milk Union 42 years back on this day.
Chief Minister PS Tamang distributed incentive cheques to Milk Cooperative Societies.
The Best ‘Milkman annual award ‘was given to milkmaid Beena Rai.
The Gawala Divas, a brain Child of Tamang, is being observed since last year to honor the dairy farmers.
“It’s a historic day in the history of dairy farmers, to see one of them Beena Rai bag Rs 10 Lakhs for her achievements in the milk production sector. She would inspire others for next year’s award, it’s far better than running after ad hoc Govt Jobs,” said the chief minister.
He announced that the sons of three milkmen will be provided money from the CM’s fund for college-level education outside Sikkim. UNI NN SSP
