Smuggled goods worth Rs 9.97 cr seized in Manipur -Myanmar border

Imphal: Assam Rifles personnel foiled cross-border smuggling of contraband in Kamjong District on Friday and seized smuggled goods worth Rs 9.97 crore.
Assam Rifles officials said, acting on credible intelligence regarding the presence of dumped Areca nuts at Humine Thana and Kangpat villages, near the Manipur Myanmar border, a strategic operation was initiated.
After conducting a thorough search of twelve houses, a huge quantity of illegally stashed Areca/Betel Nuts (Supari) were unearthed along with a truck, illegally transporting areca nuts intended for unlawful distribution in the black market.
A total of 892 bags of Areca/Betel nuts, worth Rs 9.97 crore, were seized and subsequently handed over to the Forest Beat Officer, Gomnam, Kamjong District.
