Sikkim Govt announces full lockdown from 17th to 24th May

Presently, partial lockdown has been operative. State Govt offices will remain closed, while the Central Govt offices will function in keeping with Central guidelines.

Gangtok: Reviewing the guidelines for containment of COVID-19 Pandemic, State Govt has announced full and strict lockdown from 17th to 24th May. Presently, partial lockdown has been operative. State Govt offices will remain closed, while the Central Govt offices will function in keeping with Central guidelines.

Central Govt employees will have to show their Identity Cards for commuting to offices and back. All the establishments producing medicines, equipment related to medicine, Oxygen and allied services have been exempted. Medicine shops and Milk booths will remain open. Travellers by air would require COVID-19 Negative report 48 hours before reaching Pakyong airport. Anyone moving out will require ID Card.

All the shops, including ration shops ,markets have been ordered to close down. But, people and the vehicles required for essential goods including milk, food items, vegetables, animal feed, LPG and petroleum products will be allowed. However, its not specified how will food and vegetables be sold or stored if the shops and market remain closed.

There has been lots of panic buying in rural areas ,where people had some inkling.

‘Any person violating these lockdown measures and the National directives for COVID19 management will be liable to be proceeded against, said R Telang, Principal Secretary Home.
