Sikkim government should establish Minorities’ Commission: Lama

Gangtok: National Commission for Minorities Chairperson Rinchen Lama on Thursday urged the Sikkim Government to establish the State Commission for minorities.

On a visit to the state, Lama presided over a meeting with representatives of different minority communities, including Buddhists, Christians, Muslims and Jains. The meeting was attended by Rahul K, the District Collector, East.

She asked the various minority communities about the problems faced by them and assured them she would look into those. Lama advised them to correspond directly with the Commission She urged the officers present to generate awareness regarding schemes for the minority communities and their rights. “Work in tandem with the majority,” she said.
