Several civil society groups extend support to Bharat Jodo Yatra

New Delhi: Rahul Gandhi and other senior Congress leaders on Monday held a meeting with over 150 civil society groups on the upcoming Bharat Jodo Yatra. The civil society groups expressed “broad solidarity” with the march.

Rahul Gandhi interacted with civil society members and answered their questions related to the march.

Congress’ General Secretary Communication Jairam Ramesh said the march has been called by a political party, but it’s non-partisan.

“This is a rally being taken out by a political party, but it is non-partisan. We have approached different social groups, if they believe that the Constitution is endangered, they should participate in the Bharat Jodo Yatra,” Ramesh said.

The civil society groups meanwhile said in a statement that they engaged in “substantive discussions and expressed broad solidarity with the Bharat Jodo Yatra”.

“The participant organizations welcomed the decision of the Yatra and expressed their willingness to engage with the yatra. It was decided that an appeal will be issued in the coming days for larger engagement of various civil society groups, Jan Andolans, and individuals,” the civil society groups said in the joint statement.

Apart from Ramesh, Congress leader Digvijaya Singh and others were present on behalf of Congress.

The conclave was convened by a group of civil society activists including Aruna Roy, Syeda Hameed, Sharad Behar, PV Rajgopal, Bezwada Wilson, Devanoora Mahadeva, GN Devy, and Yogendra Yadav.

Around 150 civil society groups came here, Rahul Gandhi’s discussed the Bharat Jodo Yatra with them. Many questions were raised, and there was no speech.

People asked questions, and around 35-40 RG replied why we are doing Bharat Jodo yatra What is the political context.

He said there are three pillars – economic, social, and political. A political, but nonpartisan.
