Seven trekkers died in Lamkhaga pass identified, 2 still missing

Statement issued after three days' long Army, NDRF, ITBP and SDRF joint Helicopter and mountaineering rescue operation said two trekkers are still missing.

Shimla: State administration Saturday said out of the eleven missing tourists, seven died of hypothermia and two who are missing have been identified.

Bodies of two trekkers were found on Friday on the Himachal side on the HP-Uttrakhand border.

State Emergency Operation Centre spokesperson Mr Sudesh Mokta released the list of the deceased, missing and injured in the accident that took place between October 17 and October 19 as they were trapped in heavy snowfall or blizzard on 17332ft high Lamkhaga passes while trekking from Harsil of Uttarkashi district of Uttrakhand to Chhitkul area of Sangla Tehsil of Kinnaur district in Himachal Pradesh.

Statement issued after three days’ long Army, NDRF, ITBP and SDRF joint Helicopter and mountaineering rescue operation said two trekkers are still missing. 32 ITBP jawans participated in rescue operations in the state.

The Information received here on Friday from SHO Sangla said the bodies of two missing trekkers, in this incident, have been recovered from HP Stateside (Kinnaur) moreover, five bodies and two injured persons were recovered from the team which went Uttrakhand side.
