Senapati marks World Environment Day with ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 3.0’ launch

​Senapati: Joining the global community in climate action, the District Administration of Senapati celebrated World Environment Day 2026 under the theme “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.”

​Marking the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Senapati, Shri Dharun Kumar S, IAS, officially launched the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 3.0” campaign at the DRDA Office premises (Old DC Office), Senapati. The event was organized by the District Administration in close collaboration with the Senapati Forest Division.

​Speaking at the event, Deputy Commissioner Dharun Kumar S emphasized the inseparable link between humanity and the environment, noting that every living organism originates from and ultimately returns to nature. He expressed concern that rapid urbanization has led to widespread environmental neglect. The DC appealed to the gathering to not only plant more trees but ensure they are nurtured and well taken care of. He further called on the gathering to reaffirm our commitment to securing a sustainable and better future for our children and generations to come on this crucial day.

​The Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Senapati, Shanngam S, IFS, highlighted the critical urgency of the ecological crisis, warning that immediate action is non-negotiable. Elaborating on the national campaign launched by Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the DFO explained the core sentiment of Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam—planting a tree as a tribute to one’s mother.

​The celebration featured active community participation and administrative mobilization through several key activities such as Mass Cleanliness Drive participated by District Level Officers (DLOs) led extensive cleaning campaigns across their respective office premises under the supervision of the District Administration; Awareness Rally featuring around 300 participants including students and DLOs marching from the DRDA Office to the Mini Secretariat Complex, holding banners and chanting slogans to raise environmental awareness; and, Mass Tree Plantation at the Mini Secretariat Complex, where students, accompanied by their mothers and teachers, participated in a symbolic plantation drive.

It may be also mentioned that 1370 persons participated for the district in the plantation of 10500 tree saplings across Forest Ranges of Liyai Range, Mao Range, Karong Range and District Headquarter in this campaign of Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 3.0.

​The program was well-attended by key district officials, including Shri PP Ronald, ADM of Senapati, various Sub-Divisional Officers (SDOs), District Level Officers (DLOs), Police personnels as well as local students of Mt. Everest Hr. Sec., School, Eco Club and NSS Cell of Mt. Everest College, Brookdale School, Auxilium School, Saklim School, parents, and teachers.
