Imphal: Security forces, in coordination with state police, successfully repelled a militant attack on Borobekra police station and a CRPF post in the Jakuradhor area of Jiribam district, Manipur, according to Manipur Police.
During a press briefing at Police Headquarters, Dr. I.K. Muivah, Inspector General of Police (Operations), Manipur, shared details of the incident, noting that the Borobekra police station also houses an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp.
Dr. Muivah reported that on November 11, 2024, between 2:30 and 3:00 PM, militants launched a coordinated assault on the police station and CRPF post, using heavy weaponry such as RPGs and automatic firearms. The attack caused significant damage, with several houses in the vicinity set ablaze.
Civil Police and CRPF personnel responded promptly, engaging in an intense 40-45 minute firefight with the militants and eventually securing the area. During subsequent search operations, security forces discovered the bodies of 10 militants and seized a cache of weapons and ammunition, including three AK rifles, four SLRs, two INSAS rifles, an RPG, a pump-action gun, bulletproof helmets, and multiple magazines.
Dr. Muivah noted that one CRPF constable was injured and is currently receiving medical care. Additional forces from the Assam Rifles, CRPF, and Civil Police have been deployed to the area, with security operations heightened around Jakuradhor under Borobekra Police Station’s jurisdiction.
Further search operations also led to the recovery of the bodies of two IDP civilians, residents of Modhupur, who were casualties of the attack. Six IDP civilians, including three women and three children, remain missing, with rescue operations underway.
