Security forces arrest one PREPAK cadre, explosives seized in Manipur

A man allegedly an active member of the outfit PREPAK (Pro) identified as Nongthombam Abung was nabbed. He had come to the Mantripukhri-Koirengei area looking for a place to plant an IED to attack the security forces particularly the army.

Imphal: A combined force of Manipur Police and 15 AR has nabbed a militant and seized explosives. SP, Imphal East N. Herojit said the combined team on Thursday launched a search operation in the different area Mantripukhri-Koirengei areas along the NH-39 road.

A man allegedly an active member of the outfit PREPAK (Pro) identified as Nongthombam Abung was nabbed. He had come to the Mantripukhri-Koirengei area looking for a place to plant an IED to attack the security forces particularly the army.

He concealed two IEDs at the foothill of Thumbi Ching, Nongpok Sanjenbam which he brought from Moreh in October 2021. It was handed over to him by one Ango of PREPAK (Pro) and instructed to plant the said IED at Mantripukhri area along the NH 39 road to target and attack security forces.

The combined team went to the foothill and recovered two RDX (cake) each weighing 150 grams, an RC receiver (circuit board), an Electric detonator, 9-volt battery and a remote control device.

Meanwhile, Tengnoupal Battalion foiled cross-border narcotics trafficking near Tengnoupal on Thursday. Troops of Assam Rifles noticed suspicious items hidden in a Van. On thorough checking of the vehicle, suspected brown sugar in 44 soapboxes was recovered from the chassis of the vehicle.

The narcotics recovered weighed approximately 609 grams and was assessed to be worth Rs 1.20 crores. The seized narcotics along with the drug trafficker were handed over to Tengnoupal Police for
further investigation
