Imphal: Manipur’s superstar Rajkumar Somendro Singh Monday filed his nomination for the 1-Inner Manipur Parliamentary election from the Manipur People’s Party at the office of the Returning Officer, Lamphelpat, here.
He is the first candidate to file nomination papers for the parliamentary seat.
As per the Election Notice issued last week, nomination papers may be delivered by a candidate or any of his proposers to the Returning Officer or to the Assistant Returning Officer at the Office of Returning Officer at Lamphelpat, Imphal between 11:00 a.m. and 03:00 p.m. on any day (other than a public holiday) not later than March 27, 2024 (Wednesday).
Earlier, speaking to the mediapersons, the 50-year-old actor said he joined the regional party to protect and safeguard the indigenous people of the state. He also appealed to all the people to support his party for the interest of the people.
Somendro has appeared in over 400 Manipuri films. He contested the 2019 parliamentary election in the Inner Manipur Lok Sabha constituency as an independent candidate. In February 2022, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party, but left a year later.
