Berlin: Germany’s exports of military equipment to Ukraine accounted for more than a quarter of its overall arms exports by value in 2022, the Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) said on Wednesday.

Ukraine was also the largest recipient of Germany’s arms exports in 2022, according to the ministry.

Overall, Germany exported 8.36 billion euros (8.9 billion U.S. dollars) worth of military equipment in 2022, most of which went to its partner countries, including the member states of the European Union (EU) and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

Licensed arms exports to EU and NATO members and other partner countries, including Japan and Switzerland, accounted for around 5.1 billion euros of the total.

More than 90 percent of Germany’s arms exports went to close partner countries and to Ukraine, according to State Secretary Sven Giegold. (1 euro = 1.06 U.S. dollar)
