Agartala: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate 4.12 km long Maitree Setu over River Feni in South Tripura connecting Chittagong seaport of Bangladesh tomorrow in the virtual presence of his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hassina on the celebration of the third anniversary of BJP-IPFT government in Tripura.
After the opening of Maitree Setu, Tripura is set to become the ‘Gateway of Northeast’ with access to sea covering the distance of only 72 kilometers from bordering town Sabroom. The then Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh had laid the foundation of the bridge in 2010 but the work started in 2017. Meantime, the central government has sanctioned SEZ at Sabroom to facilitate international trade.
The goods transportation on sea route for Northeastern states will be shifted to Chittagong from Haldia port of West Bengal, as all the states except for Sikkim and bordering parts of Assam with Bengal will reduce the distance for carrying goods on surface route would be half; thereby Tripura will be the trade hub for South East Asia.
According to schedule, a video message of Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hassina would also play in the programme in virtual presence of Modi. To demonstrate the development of Tripura in three years under BJP’s rule, PM Modi will virtually inaugurate as many as five projects and to lay the foundation to four projects before addressing the gathering.
He is scheduled to inaugurate Integrated Command and Control Centre – first of its kind in Northeast set up at Agartala, National Highway between Agartala and Udaipur, 40,000 houses built under PMAY urban scheme and state PWD roads besides, opening of Maitree Setu by pressing remote control.
The PM to lay foundation stone for setting up integrated check post at Sabroom in South Tripura, National Highway 280 to connect Kailashahar of North Tripura with Khowai of West Tripura, Multilevel Car Parking and Commercial Complex at old Motor stand in the city and widening of Agartala airport road from two lanes to four lanes virtually.
“With the PM’s arrival online at 12 noon, Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma will welcome him followed by screening of a short film on three years achievement of Tripura government, address of Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hassina before Prime Minister addressing the gathering,” the proposed program stated.
Both the ruling parties and the government have been working hard to make a big gathering in the celebration at Vivekananda stadium here to show unity in the government, BJP leaders have been asked to make all 36 MLAs of the party present in the celebration. Before assembly polls in Assam and West Bengal, BJP has decided to present a united show of the party despite being dissident.
All the BJP Mandals were directed to bring at least 500 hardcore cadres in the rally to send a message to poll-bound states. The party’s state in-charge Vinod Kumar Sonkar last week during his visit met with dissident MLAs Sudip Roybarman, Ramprasad Paul, Ashis Saha and Sushanta Chowdhury requesting them to make the crucial event successful.
