Manila: The Philippines will ban travellers from Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka from May 7 in efforts to prevent the spread of the highly infectious COVID-19 variant first found in India, Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea said on Wednesday.

In a memorandum, Medialdea said all passengers coming from or who have been to these countries within 14 days shall be prohibited from entering the Philippines from May 7 to 14.

According to the memorandum, arrivals before May 7 who come from or have been to these four countries will be allowed to enter but will be required to be isolated in government-run quarantine facilities for 14 days regardless of a swab test result.

The Philippines earlier banned travelers from India from April 29 to May 14 due to the COVID-19 resurgence there.
