Nagpur: The Chief Justice of India Uday Umesh Lalit on Sunday asserted that the percentage of lawyers in Parliament was declining.
U U Lalit, who was speaking at a felicitation programme organised by Maharashtra National Law University (MNLU) in Nagpur, said the percentage of lawyers was declining in both Houses of the Parliament.
He also said that a majority of the freedom struggle were predominantly lawyers and further added that the country has witnessed and benefitted from legal talents right from the inception of freedom struggle.
However, the percentage of lawyers in both the Houses of the parliament are declining,” he pointed out.
Responding to a query of law students, whether the Indian judiciary was going on in the right direction, the CJI said, India is governed by the rule of law and whatever is right will prevail and that is the job of the judiciary and we shall strive to do that,” the CJI added.
