Imphal: Many persons were injured in firing by personnel of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) on Thursday and two houses were burnt at Imphal East.
Curfew was relaxed from 5 am to 9 am today and people came out protesting the killings of youths of a particular community by armed persons.
Since May 3 last frequent attacks on people in the foothills by armed persons have led to the burning down of over 3000 houses and over 50000 people are still living in about 350 relief camps.
After a brief lull, armed persons attacked and killed nine persons on the spot at Khamenlok, in the junction of Imphal East and Kangpokpi on Tuesday followed by attack on other volunteers who were defending the villages. Many are still missing.
Most of the villages in the Manipur foothills were completely vacated due to heavy firing from the hill areas and only some volunteers were protecting the villages.
Internet remained suspended and the highway remained blocked since May 3 at Kangpokpi district resulting in complete cut off of the state from the rest of the country.
