Patna: A day after polling for by-elections in two assembly seats, Bihar RJD president Jagadanand Singh on Sunday tried to pacify Congress for not considering its claim on Kusheshwarsthan seat to contest, by stating that Congress was the only party to counter BJP at the national level and RJD would support the party in this fight.
Mr Singh told media persons here that RJD was in a better position to counter NDA in Bihar, but at the national level, Congress is the only party capable of countering the BJP led NDA. Several parties were in existence but their presence was limited to the regional level in one state or a few areas, he said and pointed that the Congress definitely has a national presence.
As it is, Congress had contested the Kusheshwarsthan seat while RJD had contested the Tarapur seat under the seat-sharing arrangement between the two parties during the last Bihar Assembly elections. During by-elections, RJD unilaterally declared its candidates for both the seats, ignoring the claim of Congress on the Kusheshwarsthan seat which led to collapse of the alliance between the two parties in
Bihar. In a retaliatory move, Congress had also fielded its candidates in both the constituencies.
