Guwahati: Accusing Congress of favouring infiltrators, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday said that it is only the BJP that can stop the menace of the illegal migration, and the party would bring laws like love and land jihad in Assam to protect the Assamese culture and religion.

Speaking at an election rally in Kamrup district in Assam, Shah said that his party would, among other things, bring in laws to stop love and land jihad.

“The BJP’s manifesto has several points. But the biggest among them is that the government will work towards bring in laws against love and land jihad,” Shah said.

It may be mentioned here that, influential minister in ruling BJP government in Assam, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma had said that state government will bring multiple laws to stop forceful religious conversions and to protect the land rights of the indigenous Assamese people.

Shah claimed that in five year of BJP rule in the state the state has been freed from agitation and terrorism.

He also promised to make Assam flood free.

Cautioning voters against “Grand Alliance” led by Congress, Mr Shah said that if Badruddin Ajmal forms government here, will it stop infiltrators.

“ Rahul Gandhi who came here as a tourist says Badruddin Ajmal is Assam’s identity. But Sankardev, Lachit Borphukan, Madhavdev are Assam identities,” Shah said.

Security arrangements has been strengthened in 47 constituencies which will go to polls tomorrow in the first phase of Assam assembly elections.

In the second phase 39 constituencies will go to polls on April 1, while 40 assembly segments in third phase will go to polls on April 6.
