Imphal: Altogether 175 candidates are in the fray for the first phase of Manipur Assembly elections covering 38 constituencies on Feb 27, officials announced after the scrutiny of nomination papers on Wednesday.
Only one nomination paper, filed by an independent candidate in Churachandpur district, was found invalid during the scrutiny. However, the exact number of contestants will be known after the last date of withdrawal – February 11.
For the 13 Assembly segments in the Imphal West district, nominations of all 56 candidates were found valid. For ten seats of Imphal East, 45 candidates were trying their luck.
In Churachandpur and Pherzawl districts covering six Assembly segments, 34 candidates were fighting it out. For three Assembly seats in Kangpokpi district, 18 candidates have thrown their hats in the ring.Â
