Nobel laureate & NASA scientists to visit Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram: The lecture series and seminars at the Global Science Festival Kerala (GSFK), which will begin on January 15 at the Bio 360 Life Sciences Park in Thonakkal here will be notable for the presence of world-renowned experts.


Nobel laureate Professor Morten P. Meldal, among other experts, will be visiting Kerala as part of the science festival. Morten P. Meldal, a Danish chemist who received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the development of click chemistry and bioorthogonal chemistry, will be speaking at a public talk on February 7 at 11 am.


Dr. Madhulika Guhathakurtha, a scientist at NASA’s Heliophysics Science Division will be speaking on January 16 at 5 pm as a part of the D. Krishna Warrier Memorial Lecture by AASTRO at GSFK.


Additionally, a one-day workshop with NASA’s Communications and Outreach lead Denise Hill will be held on February 13. An interaction session with scientists from NASA and ISRO will also be held on January 22 from 10 am to 4 pm.


Further, Professor Robert Potts of Manchester Metropolitan University will be speaking at a public lecture to be held on January 17 at 10 am. MP Ms Kanimozhi Karunanidhi will be speaking on the “Poetry of Science” at a public talk on January 18 at 5 pm.


Professor Michael Wilson, Professor of Drama and Head of Creative Arts at the University of Loughborough, will be speaking on January 22 at 5 pm.
The festival will feature many lectures by many eminent personalities on various days, including Ramon Magsaysay Award winner Dr. Rajendra Singh and Indian Maritime University Vice-Chancellor Malini V. Shankar IAS.


There will also be a lecture series featuring expatriate Malayalee leaders and Malayalee Bhatnagar Award winners, the E.O. Wilson Talk Series, a Geosciences talk series, a one-day workshop on science communication in collaboration with the Kerala Media Academy, the IISER-GSFK Conference, Amuseum Talks, and an IIT Conclave. GSFK will host a variety of lectures, seminars and conclaves from January 16 to February 13.
