Kolkata: Calcutta High Court today refused to stay the byelection to Bhawanipur
Assembly seay from where Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee is contesting to secure her post as Chief Minister.
A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal and Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj issued the ruling in a crowded courtroom after two-day tense hearings.
The byelection came before the high court scanner after public interest litigation was filed questioning the Election Commission’s contention of a “constitutional exigency” for holding bypoll in the Bhabanipur Assembly seat in Kolkata.
