Imphal: The Government of Manipur has issued a statement addressing recent claims by an entity identifying itself as the “Kuki-Zo Council.” After a thorough investigation, it has been determined that no such organization exists within the state. The legitimacy and origins of this group remain highly suspect.
The government also clarified that there is no district in Manipur named “Lamka,” which was mentioned as the purported headquarters of the group. This discrepancy raises significant concerns about the organization’s external nature, as it appears to operate outsideablished legal and administrative frameworks the state’s est.
In light of increasing security challenges due to the influx of people from neighbouring countries, the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, has reimposed the Protected Area Regime in Manipur, Mizoram, and Nagaland. This measure will closely regulate the movement of foreigners, who will now be required to obtain Protected Area Permits (PAP) under the Foreigners (Protected Areas) Order of 1958.
The Manipur Police are actively investigating this matter, and an FIR will be filed to determine the true nature and intent behind these misleading activities. The public is urged to be cautious and refrain from believing statements or claims made by organizations of dubious origin, which seem to be aimed at sowing confusion and unrest.
The Government remains committed to preserving peace and harmony within the state and advises citizens to remain vigilant and rely only on trustworthy sources of information. Updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
The Government also appealed to both national and local media outlets to avoid publicizing press releases from unauthorized organizations or individuals. The central government and its agencies have similarly urged the public to disregard claims from unverifiable sources.
At this critical juncture, the restoration of peace and unity among the communities of Manipur is paramount. The Government will not tolerate any efforts that undermine the peace process.
