NITI Aayog officials brief CM on progress of Mizoram in the SDG Index

Aizaw : Chief Minister Pu Zoramthanga was briefed at his office Saturday by officials of NITI Aayog on the latest SDG Index 2020-21 and Mizoram’s position in the Index; the status of the Districts of Mizoram in the NER District SDG Index, which has been done for the first time and the NITI Aayog enunciated poverty index of the country – National Multidimensional Poverty Index and Mizoram’s position vis-a-vis the country.

After the presentation given by Sanyukta Samaddar, Adviser (SDGs) NITI Aayog, the Chief Minister remarked progress of Mizoram from the 21st position in 2019-20 Index to the 12th position in 2020-21 Index was a huge jump but challenges in some sectors remain he acknowledged.

Commenting that economic progress of the state and its people is vital to advancement in Sustainable Development Goals and is dependent on it, he said that for the economic growth of the state, its assets whether they are – agro-forestry based resources, particularly the bamboo rich resources of the state, the river resources, the congenial weather must be harnessed in all possible ways and fronts.

The NITI Aayog team headed by Adviser (SDGs) highlighted the progress of Mizoram in various SDGs that comprise the SDG Index, the progress so far and the challenges that remain we also addressed in the brief presentation.

The status of the Districts of Mizoram in the NER District SDG Index was also presented. Serchhip and Lunglei Districts are among the Top 10 Districts in the performance of SDGs.
