Imphal: National Institute of Technology (NIT) Manipur has secured 108 in the National Institutional Rankings Framework (NIRF) Rankings 2022. The institution bagged 114 rank in NIRF ranking 2021.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced the results of NIRF 2022 Friday at an event held in the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.

While, IIT-Madras retained its No.1 ranking in ‘Overall’ category for the fourth consecutive year and in ‘Engineering’ Category for the seventh consecutive year, IIT Guwahati stood 8th position in the ‘overall’ category and ranked 7th in the ‘engineering’ category.

India has over 45,000 degree colleges, over 1000 universities and around 1500 top institutes. The number of Indian institutes registered for the NIRF rankings have steadily increased over the years.

In 2020, 3,800 institutes participated in NIRF Rankings; in 2021, the number was 6000, and in 2022, the number is 7,254.

The NIRF score of an Indian institute shows where a college, university or institution stands with respect to other institutions in a similar category. It helps students make the right choice when it comes to college selection.

Institutes need to register and submit data for the NIRF Rankings. The same data is also made public through its website. Physical audits and checks are carried out by NIRF to ensure that the data is authentic. Institutes may be debarred from ranking and face consequences if they are providing false data.

Meanwhile, Prof Gautam Sutradhar, Director NIT Manipur, has congratulated all the teaching and non-teaching members including the students for the achievement.

He expressed satisfaction with the ranking as it was secured with limited infrastructure, and several other constraints.

Prof Sutradhar also referred to the commendable performance of the Training and Placement Cell of the institution. This year also the highest package offered to NIT student was 47 lakh per annum by Amazon. Another student was also offered 45 lakh per annum by Microsoft.

It may be recalled that last year the highest placement offered was made by Microsoft with an offer of 42.5 lakh per annum. NIT Manipur students’ placements are among the best in the northeast region, he claimed.

The Director also urged his team to put more effort to secure among the top 100 colleges next year.
