Puri: A newborn baby girl was rescued from the toilet of a hospital on Thursday. The baby was rushed to the infant’s ward. According to Dr Suryamani Mishra, the in-charge of the special newborn care unit (SNCU) at the district headquarter hospital here, it is a case of “premature” delivery of a baby.
His weight and physical condition reflect he is nearly seven months old. “Preliminary examination reveals that the baby’s condition is critical and we have admitted the baby in SNCU and if needed we may shift the baby to SCB Medical College and hospital,” said Dr Mishra.
A patient, who was there in the OPD, said a pregnant lady came at about 9 AM on Thursday and went to the toilet. After some time she left. He did not notice anything wrong at that time. Debasis Rath, Director, Child Line, said “we will ensure that best possible medical care is given to the baby and if the situation demands she may be taken to SCB Medical College and hospital for better treatment.
The doctor on duty informed the chief district medical officer (CDMO) and Kumbharpara police about the incident. Police registered a case and will scan the CCTV footage of the day to ascertain the identity of the woman, it is learnt.
