Churachandpur: The National Deworming Day was launched under the Churachandpur District Health Society at Tuibong Govt. High School, Tuibong, Churachandpur Monday. Four students were administered with deworming tablets during the Programme by the SDO Tuibong and CMO Churachandpur. Similar programmes were also held at Saikot Community Hall and Mount Olive School Tangmual.
SDO, Tuibong, Sarath Chandra Arroju, stated that deworming is really an important issue particularly in a country like India where malnourishment is very rampant. Cautioning the students to matter seriously, he mentioned that if you have worms inside you, it is not you consuming the food rather it is the worms taking the food.
Expressing his serious concern with the second wave Corona Virus and that the young are no longer immune from the virus, the SDO urged everybody to be extremely careful, be more responsible towards care of family and community, avoid big gatherings and wash hands repeatedly to avoid worm infestation and Corona Virus.
Dr Vumchinpao Tonsing said that due to growth retardation, mental retardation and all sorts of deficiencies including anemia& malnutrition, the Govt. of India is taking a keen interest to create awareness about worm infection and eradicating the Soil-Transmitted Helminths (STH) in children aged 1 to 19 years. Urging to wash hand properly after playing and before taking food to break the cycle of transmission, the CMO stated that deworming is important for all round development of physical and mental health.
Officials from Education Department and Medical Department also attended the programme.
