Droupadi Murmu’s visit to Nagaland, which was scheduled from November 2 to 3, coincides with the sesquicentennial celebration (150 years) of Christianity in the state scheduled from November 1 to 3 next.

According to a press release issued by the Central Nagaland Tribes Council (CNTC), Ao Senden, the apex traditional body Ao Naga tribe, and the Ao Baptist Arogo Mungdang (ABAM) have expressed their dismay over an advisory issued by the Nagaland Government directing all the officers to be in the station in view of the President Droupadi Murmu visit to Nagaland.

The CNTC also termed the timing of the visit of the President as unfortunate and appealed to the State Government not restrict anyone from attending the celebration and make alternative viable arrangements for the community to celebrate free from interference.

The Sesquicentennial celebration was not only historic to the ABAM, but to the whole of Nagaland and has been a long-planned event, such advisory by the government or any organization should be avoided, the Council stated in a press release.

The release said that the CNTC further extended its greetings to the ABAM in its preparation to celebrate the coming of Christianity in Ao Naga soil from November 1 to 3 next and sincere appreciation to all well-wishers who will be joining in the celebration.
