Nagaland Governor talks with political leaders on COVID-19

Governor Ravi urged the leaders to shed their political differences in our fight against the pandemic to save our people and their livelihood because both are at high risk today.

Kohima: Nagaland Governor R. N. Ravi, in view of the severity of the second wave of COVID-19 in the country, held a sensitization-cum-consultation meeting with various political party leaders of the State today at Dr. Imkongliba Hall of Raj Bhavan in Kohima.

According to a report issued by the PRO of Raj Bhavan among the invitees of the meeting Nagaland Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister, Health & Family Welfare were present. At the beginning the Department of Health & Family Welfare briefed the political leaders by a Power Point presentation on the status of COVID-19 and also preparedness of the State Government.

Governor Ravi urged the leaders to shed their political differences in our fight against the pandemic to save our people and their livelihood because both are at high risk today. Learning from the past experience, Governor reiterated the message of the Prime Minister that lockdown should be the last option. With due regard to the severity of the second wave of the pandemic, a large number of our people suffering from co-morbidities like heart problems, diabetics and hypertension and the status of the medical infrastructure in the State, Governor emphasized the need on prevention to be the top most priority for all of us.

Governor Ravi expressed concern with high vaccine hesitancy in the State due to false rumours going around and urged the leaders to play their role as leaders in encouraging people to shed vaccine hesitancy. In this long fight against the pandemic, he reminded the leaders that the frontline workers have been under severe stress for the last over one year. They are facing the brunt of the situation. Hence it is our collective responsibility to do everything possible to boost their morale.

During the discussion, political leaders gave several valuable practical suggestions. Governor thanked them for their non-partisan positive approach and their constructive suggestions and hoped that the Government would take due note of them.

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Deputy Chief Minister Y.Patton, Minister, Health & Family Welfare S. Pangnyu Phom, Leader of Opposition T. R. Zeliang; MP (Lok Sabha); Tokheho Yepthomi, President, Naga Peoples’ Front (NPF) Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu, Working President of NDPP Alemtemshi Jamir, State General Secretary of BJP Eduzu Theluo, Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee President K. Theirie, General Secretary of JDU Kitoho S.Rotokha, Nationalistic Congress Party (NCP) President Vanthungo Odyuo and National Peoples’ Party (NPP) President Dr Andrew Ahoto participated in the meeting, the release said.
