Nagaland extends SOP till Feb 15

Nagaland Chief Secretary J Alam, who is also the Chairperson of the State Executive Committee issued an order stating that all existing restrictions on social, religious, political, sports, academic, cultural or entertainment gatherings would continue to be in force till February 15.

Kohima: The Nagaland Government has decided to extend existing Standard Operating Procedure restrictions till February 15 to prevent further spread of the coronavirus, as the state experiences a surge in Covid-19 cases, officials informed on Tuesday.

Nagaland Chief Secretary J Alam, who is also the Chairperson of the State Executive Committee issued an order stating that all existing restrictions on social, religious, political, sports, academic, cultural or entertainment gatherings would continue to be in force till February 15.

The SOP issued on January 8 last, by the Nagaland Government, had restricted the number of participants for any type of public gatherings to 50 per cent capacity, or up to a maximum of 200 persons and only those who are fully vaccinated. In case there is an unavoidable need to have bigger gatherings, they may be permitted only after getting express permission from the respective District Task Force.

The order issued on Monday announced a relaxation of Covid-19 SOPs in the state, allowing physical classes for students of classes 1 to 8 from February 15. It stated that offline or physical classes for students of Classes 1 to 8 would be allowed from February 15, subject to parental consent of individual students and fulfilment of the conditions and SOPs that will be issued by the Home Department.

The Nagaland Board of School Education will be allowed to conduct the upcoming board examinations for Class 10 and Class 12 offline. However, the order stated that all the existing restrictions in the state for preventing the spread of COVID-19 as issued in the earlier orders, including those on social, religious, political, sports, academic and cultural entertainment gatherings and others shall continue” till February 15.

The order further said that anyone found in violation of the SOPs will be liable to be prosecuted under relevant sections of the Disaster Management Act, 2005 besides action under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code and other applicable legal provisions will also be taken against them, it said.
