Myanmar’s State Administration Council to consider ASEAN call for constructive dialogue

A five-point consensus was reached Saturday by ASEAN leaders regarding the situation in Myanmar at a ASEAN leaders' meeting held in Indonesia's capital Jakarta.

Yangon: Myanmar’s State Administration Council (SAC) said on Tuesday that it would consider suggestions made by the leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to promote dialogue and end the violence in the country.
The suggestions made at a recent meeting in Indonesia would be considered if it facilitates the five-step roadmap laid down by the SAC, serves the interests of the country and is based on the principles enshrined in the ASEAN Charter, the SAC said in a statement.
“It will give careful consideration to constructive suggestions made by ASEAN leaders when the situation returns to stability in the country since priorities were to maintain law and order and to restore community peace and tranquility,” it said.
Meanwhile, Sen-Gen Min Aung Hlaing, chairman of the SAC told a council meeting on Monday that ASEAN-proposed visits to Myanmar would be considered once the country is stabilized, state-run media reported on Tuesday.
A five-point consensus was reached Saturday by ASEAN leaders regarding the situation in Myanmar at a ASEAN leaders’ meeting held in Indonesia’s capital Jakarta.
The consensus called for an immediate end to the violence in Myanmar and for constructive dialogue among all parties involved in the fighting, suggested a special envoy of the ASEAN Chair to facilitate mediation of the dialogue process and pledged to provide humanitarian aid to Myanmar.
