Nay Pyi Taw: The leader of a group of politicians Myanmar ousted by the military coup on Saturday vowed to continue with the “revolution” against the authorities.
In his first public address, Mahn Win Khaing Than said “this is the darkest moment of the nation and the moment that the dawn is close”.
Khaing who is in hiding has been leading a group of NLD legislators who managed to escape arrest and formed a new group, the Committee for Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH), with Mr Khaing Than appointed as acting head. The CRPH is seeking international recognition as Myanmar’s rightful government.
The NLD won a landslide victory in last year’s election, but the military said the poll was fraudulent.
Myanmar has witnessed continued street protests ever since the military overthrew the democratically elected government on February 1 and seized control, and put Ang Sang Suu Kyi and other leaders of her NLD party under house arrest and also charged them with corruption.
