Imphal: Last Friday, Assam Rifles troops apprehended one person in possession of 2.98 kg of brown sugar worth Rs 5.83 crore.
On the other hand, the central security forces have also foiled cross-border smuggling of brown sugar at Khudengthabi in Manipur’s Tengnoupal district, an official said on Sunday.
Based on specific input, Modi Battalion troops and a team from Tengnoupal Police Station launched a mobile vehicle check post in Larong Khunao village, Tengnoupal district, which led to the seizure of 2.918 kg of brown sugar in 70 soap cases and the apprehension of one person. The contraband was hidden in the fuel tank of Eeco car No TEMP A 92553.
A statement said that the apprehended individual, brown sugar, and vehicle were handed over to Tengnoupal PS for further legal proceedings.

Meanwhile, an Assam Rifles official said during an operation, 525 grams of brown sugar drugs in 12 packets were recovered on Saturday by the Tengnoupal Battalion. The drugs seized were estimated to be worth Rs 1.05 crore.
The recovered narcotic drugs were handed over to Moreh Police for further legal proceedings.
