Mock drills on disaster mgmt held at Manipur’s Bishnupur

It was carried out to check the preparedness for disaster management and to create awareness on how to respond immediately at the time of disaster.

Bishnupur: District Administration, Bishnupur, Department of Relief and Disaster Management and State Disaster Management Authority, Government of Manipur today organised a State Level Mock Exercise on Earthquake Disaster Management in coordination with National Disaster Management Authority, Government of India. 

The mock exercise was conducted at three sites – the Panchayat Resource Centre, Bishnupur, Mini Secretariat (DC Office) Building, Bishnupur and Bitej Gasoline Centre (Oil Pump), Bishnupur. It was carried out to check the preparedness for disaster management and to create awareness on how to respond immediately at the time of disaster.

The mock drill was conducted assuming a scenario of an earthquake of 7.2 magnitudes on the Richter Scale occurring with an epicentre located at the Noney District. In the drill fire tender, ambulance with a medical team, excavator and water tanker were utilised.

Volunteers from NYK Bishnupur and NDRF demonstrated different strategies including fire management, victim evacuation, rescue teams coordination, and administration of first aid to victims. The demonstration was carried out with the aim to minimize the loss of life and property during the disaster.

ADM Bishnupur, H. Bobby Sharma, BDO Moirang, Rishikanta Loitongbam, District Coordinator NYK, Dr. S. Dhanachandra, , volunteers of NYK Bishnupur, members of Incident Response Team, (IRT) Bishnupur, official concerned of CMO, PWD, PHED participated in the mock drill.

Ritesh Thakur, 2 In-charge 32 Battalion CRPF, Loktak Project attended the mock drill as an Observer.
