Aizawl: Health & Family Welfare Minister Dr R Lalthangliana on Wednesday urged churches, NGOs and local volunteers to revive efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19 in view of the recent spike of COVID-19 positive cases in the state.
The Health Minister, on Wednesday, interacted with representatives of churches, NGOs, Mizoram Village Council Association and Aizawl City Local Council Association in view of the recent spike in COVID-19 cases.
The Health Minister praised the collective efforts of churches, NGOs and Village/Local Level Task Force at the peak of coronavirus last year which produced great results in containing the spread of the virus in the state. He also said that since the state has performed very well in containing the spread of the virus, COVID-19 protocols were also subsequently relaxed but the state has, unfortunately, registered a spike in COVID-19 cases since late March and the first week of April alone has registered 32 new cases already.
In view of the current situation, the Minister said new Standard Operating Procedure will soon be issued by the government, and urged the leaders to take immediate preventive measures by reviving Village/Local level Task Forces throughout the state to help prevent the spread of the virus.
The meeting also discussed the need to review night curfew, church services, sports activities, screening of Myanmar nationals, who sneak into the state and stepping up vigil at various entry points along the international and inter-state borders.
Secretary, Disaster & Management Rehabilitation department, Special Secretary, Health & Family Welfare department and State Nodal Officer on COVID-19 were also present at the meeting.
