Ambassa (Tripura): In a sensational happening a school going minor girl committed suicide by consuming wild nuts against which the parents claimed her to be a rape victim in the bordering subdivision of Kamalpur in the northern Tripura district of Dhalai here.
As the parents alleged, the minor girl originally hailed from the subdivision of Ambassa in the district. She had been reared and brought up at her maternal uncle’s house since a very tender age in the Kamalpur and she was a student of class 10 in a local girls’ school.
On Diwali night, she was raped by one of the neighbours identified as Sourabh Shil. The girl informed her mother and asked her to come the next morning. As she arrived, she detailed everything to her mother.
When the mother asked the accused of everything he insulted the girl.
Later they went to Ambassa.
Meanwhile, she consumed some wild nuts and hide the matter.
On the next day, her condition deteriorated and she disclosed that she had consumed some wild nuts. Immediately she was taken to the district hospital from where the doctors referred her to Agartala Medical College and Hospital (AGMC). There she breathed her last on Sunday. Then the parents arrived at the local Kamalpur police station yesterday to complain.
Getting the news, a section of infuriated students ransacked the house of the accused which, however, ended with a mild scuffling.
In between, the members of the District Child Welfare Committee(DCWC) identified as Gopal Sutradhar and Sumita Pal reached the police station, collected minute details of the incident, discussed with the parents, met the Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) and demanded stringent action.
The police assured the parents of every possible help and speedy investigation. Resentment brewed among the local people regarding the incident.
