Imphal: Education Minister S Rajen Singh has said that farmers of the state should adopt multiple systems of farming for a self-reliant economy. Cultivable lands in the state are left without any crop for a long period of time after harvesting a single crop in a year. Minister was speaking at the One Day Farmers’ Training Programme Cum Distribution of pre-Kharif and Kharif Crops at Salam, Wednesday.
He said that the agricultural produce of the state can be doubled and even tripled if we adopt the modern scientific method of farming. The concept of the green field should be made feasible to ease out the problem of insufficiency of food grains and vegetables. Central Agricultural University, CAU, Imphal is also playing a vital role to increase the production of crops in the state, he added.
The minister while pointing out the need for a fair Agricultural Policy of the state, stressed that farmers of the state should consult experts of Central Agricultural University. CAU has the knowledge regarding high yielding seeds and use of the modern method of technology in agriculture for augmenting production, he added.

Minister also distributed pre-Kharif and Kharif crops including sprayers to the farmers. A technical session was also held after the formal function as a part of the occasion.
Speaking as president Dr S Basanta Singh, Director of Research, CAU Imphal, said that farmers of the state can get training on different methods of farming from the experts of CAU. The Indian Government has also introduced many schemes to develop the agriculture sector such as PMSY, PMKY etc. RKVY. Borewell digging will also help the farmers. Farmers have also been trained at different stages, he added.
