Minister Rajen urges colleges to improve their NAAC credit score

Imphal: Education Minister, S Rajen Singh has said that the colleges in the state need to get a minimum of 2.5 NAAC credit score in order to avail the facilities provided by UGC.  Rajen Singh was speaking as the chief guest on the Foundation Day Celebration of Mayai Lambi College, Yumnam Huidrom Friday.

Rajen said that the present government is working very hard to improve the education sector in the state. There have been renovations and infrastructure development of government colleges and other educational institutions during the last few years with the available fund. Many new structures have also been inaugurated and handed over to the authorities of the concerned institutions, he added.

He said that Don Bosco College, Maram has recently become an autonomous institution in the state. The autonomous status of the college is conferred by University Grant Commission for scoring 3.5 credit point score under National Assessment and Accreditation Council, NAAC.

Minister Rajen maintained that National Education Policy, NEP, 2020 has been introduced to improve the education sector of the country. A state-level task force has also been constituted for the successful implementation of the policy in the state. A grand seminar has also been organised at City Convention Centre. District and sub-divisional level awareness programmes on NEP is also being organised in college as an initiative to give awareness on it by the Department of Education (U).

Minister Rajen said that all the colleges in the state should work on how to increase credit points under the NAAC. Only qualified colleges will get funds and grants from UGC and RUSA, he added.

Minister maintained that the New Education Policy is a multi-perspective initiative of the government. Students will not only get academic knowledge under NEP but also get trained in many dimensions like vocational courses. After their degree they will be equipped for many jobs, he added.       

Speaking as the president of the function, Agriculture Minister, O Lukhoi Singh said that knowledge is very important in any field. He stressed the need to give quality education to students of the state for a bright future. Minister Lukhoi also appreciated the endeavours and sacrifices of the college staff to bring up the status of Mayai Lambi College, he added.

Later, Minister Rajen inaugurated a community hall at Thouroijan in Lamshang Assembly Constituency and KK Football Turf at Meitram, Imphal West. At the inaugural function of KK Football Turf, Meitram, Advisor (Health) to CM, MLA Dr S Ranjan Singh attended the occasion as the president.
