Imphal: Tourism Minister Oinam Lukhoi Singh inspected the various projects taken up by the Tourism Department in Bishnupur district Saturday in the presence of MLA, Moirang AC, P. Sharatchandra Singh, Additional Chief Secretary, Tourism, P. Vaiphei, Director, Tourism, Ibohal Singh and concerned officials of the department.
The Ministerial team inspected the ongoing construction work of underground parking and its components located near the INA Martyrs’ Memorial Complex. Also, they visited the then INA Headquarters building which still stands bearing the brunt of machine gun fires and bomb splinters during the 2nd World War in Manipur.
During the visit, Minister Lukhoi informed that as part of developing the Indian National Army (INA) site as a major tourist hub, the State government is in the process of preserving the land and houses where the bombs fell during the 2nd World War in Manipur as a historical site.
The INA Martyrs’ Memorial complex located at Moirang is a war memorial dedicated to the soldiers of the Indian National Army. He expressed deep gratitude to the landowner for still preserving the house in its originality till date.
O. Lukhoi also stated that the government is continuously working towards boosting the tourism sector of the state by preserving the major historical sites of the state. He also informed that most of the ongoing Tourism projects will soon be inaugurated once the situation of COVID-19 is under control.
