Chandel: Water Resource and YAS Minister, Letpao Haokip handed over the Trauma Care Centre at District hospital, Chandel to the public Tuesday in a function organised by the Health Department, Chandel.
The Trauma Care Centre was inaugurated by Chief Minister N Biren Singh on March 15 at City Convention Hall as part of the celebration of the citizen-centric governance’s completion of its fourth year.
Speaking on the occasion as the guest of honour, Water Resource and YAS minister, Letpao Haokip said that the Trauma Care Centre is part of the 311 projects taken up by the present government and of which 39 were completed and inaugurated on March 15. He said trauma care centre at Senapati has already been handed over to the public whereas Thoubal District’s centre will be handed over on March 26 and Bishnupur and Churachandpur will follow suit.

He further said that the government employees in general and even from the hill areas are not interested in staying in the hill districts and this trend should change. He even suggested that any doctor who applies for study leave for post graduate course should be given leave only when they sign an undertaking to be posted in the hill districts for minimum 3 years after they complete their PG studies.
Speaking about the lack of manpower and medical staff, the Minister said that the government is planning to fill up the vacancies in the health department by April and he is hopeful that the required staff in the district hospitals will be filled up and the Trauma Centre will become fully functional.

In his speech as the president of the function, Deputy Commissioner Chandel, Mayanglambam Rajkumar said that any new development in the district like starting the Trauma Care Centre cannot be become fully functional without necessary components and thanked the state government for providing the blood storage centre to the district. He further said that Chandel being the only Aspirational District in the state is always competing with the remaining 112 district all over the country, the district Administration besides the other parameters, is giving more emphasis on health & nutrition and Education. He further said that the Health Department is planning to convert all the sub-health centres to Health and Wellness centres.
Director, Health Services, Manipur Dr K Rajo Singh also attended the function as the guest of honour.
