Minister Heikham Dingo bats for Khurkhul Muga silk

Dingo further said that Muga silk being produced in Khurkhul has possessed a unique quality that has been closely linked with its historical and civilizational journey.

Imphal: Manipur’s Social Welfare Minister Heikham Dingo Singh has said that he was proud to be the son of the soil wherein Khurkhul Muga silk is being produced that has spread, not just in Manipur, but all over the world for its extreme durability and glossy texture. 

While addressing a gathering at the launch of awareness on the Cluster Development Programme at Khurkhul Makha Leikai under the National Handloom & Handicrafts Development Programme of the Ministry of Textile, Government of India, the Minister said that the country, under the able leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has surpassed the United Kingdom to become the fifth largest economy in the world, which is a proud moment for every citizen of the nation. 

Dingo further said that Muga silk being produced in Khurkhul has possessed a unique quality that has been closely linked with its historical and civilizational journey. It’s our responsibility to preserve and produce it in large quantities with the best quality and with the support of the state government. This will bring a huge change in the state’s economy, the Minister added.  

Dingo also suggested taking full advantage of various schemes launched by different departments. 

A Ronika Devi, President AWAS; Hara Kanta Bora, Deputy Director, HoO, WSC Porompat; Jocelyn Akoijam, Project Manager, District Handloom & Textiles, Imphal West and others attended the function.
