Imphal: Manipur’s Works Minister Thongam Biswajit Singh Monday laid the foundation stone for the construction of Akham Bridge in the presence of Education Minister S. Rajen Singh at Akham village under Lamsang Assembly constituency.

Speaking to the media person, Biswajit stated that the construction of the bridge, to be built over the Nambul River, will be carried out using new technology. He further informed that the bridge will be ‘Composite Bridge Design’ of nearly 20 metres in length and 5.5 metres in width. The bridge will help in connecting the adjoining areas such as Lambal, Lamsang, Heibongpokpi, Lamlongei and Singda to Lamdeng Khonghampat.

The Minister maintained that the bridge once completed will enhance the agricultural and economic activity lessening the distance between the neighbouring villages. It will also help in overcoming the hardships faced by the localities while commuting, he added.

He assured that efforts will be put in so that the construction of the bridge can be completed on time and handed over to the people.
