Meghalaya speaker submits DPR for second phase of assembly building

Shillong: Hon’ble Speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, Thomas A. Sangma, met with the Hon’ble Union Minister for Tribal Affairs, Government of India, Jual Oram, at his office on Friday and submitted the proposal along with the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the second phase of the New Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.

During the meeting, the Hon’ble Speaker also raised the issue of the pending Central share of scholarships for tribal students of Meghalaya. He requested the Hon’ble Union Minister to facilitate the early release of the pending scholarship amount.

Shri Thomas A. Sangma further requested that the pending scholarship amount be released in a single instalment rather than in several instalments. He highlighted that releasing the amount in one instalment would help avoid uncertainty and dissatisfaction among students awaiting scholarship assistance.

The Hon’ble Speaker emphasised the importance of timely disbursement of scholarship funds to ensure that tribal students in Meghalaya do not face unnecessary difficulties in pursuing their education.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss matters concerning the development of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly and the educational welfare of tribal students in the State.
