Shillong: Seven new COVID-19 cases, including one from among the armed/paramilitary forces, were reported, taking the number of active cases in the state up to 26 in Meghalaya on Friday.
On the other hand, in view of the prevailing situation concerning COVID-19 in the state and in order to put in place preventive and mitigation measures so the pandemic is contained, reduced and eliminated in East Khasi Hills District and Meghalaya, the District Magistrate, East Khasi Hills District has extended the night curfew in the district with effect from March 27 to April 2 between 12 am to 5 am each day.
However, according to the order, the night curfew will be lifted on the night of March 28 in view of the ensuing Shab-e-Barat celebration.
Director Health Services (MI), Dr Aman War informed that five new cases were detected in East Khasi Hills district, and two in the Ri-Bhoi district.
“Four more recoveries from the viral infection were recorded in the East Khasi Hills District today,” he informed.
So far, Meghalaya has registered 14,029 COVID-19 cases, including 150 deaths with 1.07 per cent case fatality rate and 13,853 cases of recovery from the viral disease.
While 21,846 health care workers have been vaccinated against COVID-19 with the first dose of Covishield, 14,336 have received the second dose of the vaccine.
Dr War informed that 31,879 frontline workers have been vaccinated with the first dose and 15,993 have received the second dose of the vaccine so far.
Also, 23,446 persons from among the general public have been inoculated against COVID-19 with the first dose of the vaccine across the state, as per the latest count.
