Meghalaya records 248 COVID-19 cases, one death

Meghalaya has so far registered 79, 206 confirmed COVID-19 cases, as per data released by health authorities.

Shillong: Meghalaya recorded 248 new COVID-19 cases, taking the number of active cases up to 1,952 and the death of one unvaccinated person that increased the number of fatalities to 1,371, even as 99 more recoveries from the viral infection surged the number of recovered cases to 75,883 on Friday.

Meghalaya has so far registered 79, 206 confirmed COVID-19 cases, as per data released by health authorities.

Director of Health Services (MI) Dr. Aman War said the death was reported from West Jaintia Hills district.

Out of the 248 new cases, the senior medical official said 104 were detected in East Khasi Hills district, 77 in West Khasi Hills district, 37 in Ri-Bhoi district, 15 in South West Khasi Hills district, eight in West Jaintia Hills district, four in West Garo Hills district and one case each in East Jaintia Hills district and North Garo Hills district.

The East Khasi Hills, which includes State capital Shillong is the most pandemic hit district with 876 active COVID-19 cases and 947 deaths, followed by West Khasi Hills district with 372 active cases and 59 deaths, West Jaintia Hills district with 290 active cases and 122 deaths, Ri-Bhoi district with 193 active cases and 79 deaths and West Garo Hills district with 50 active cases and 72 deaths, while the other districts had less than 50 active cases each, health officials said.

Of the 10,31,714 persons tested for Covid-19 in the State till today, 9,52,508 persons were tested negative for the virus.

On the other hand, 32,048 health care workers received the first dose of the vaccine against COVID-19 and 26,630 were administered with the second dose, 96,957 front-line workers got the first jab and 74,001 took the second shot, 9,25,416 persons from among the general public have been inoculated with the first dose and 2,88,351 have been fully vaccinated with the second dose across the State as on date, as per information received from the National Health Mission.
