Shillong: A stunning mural on the office building of the East Khasi Hills deputy commissioner, depicting the natural beauty of Meghalaya, was inaugurated here on Friday by Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh.
The artwork, portraying the theme of “Root and Rhythm,” was supported by the Indian Foundation and Asian Paints in collaboration with the Government of Meghalaya.
The mural, a testament to Mario Pathaw’s skill and creativity, added a burst of color and culture to the administrative hub in the city.
Lyngdoh said that the mural was carefully crafted and captured the spirit of Meghalaya’s cultural diversity.
“The artwork not only serves as an aesthetic addition to the deputy commissioner’s office but also symbolizes the harmony between tradition and contemporary expression,” he said.
“What we have done today is encourage the tourists to not only be mesmerized by our natural beauty but also to step into immersive tourism,” the tourism minister observed.
Meghalaya has so much to offer to the rest of the world, if you think in terms of each of our waterfalls having stories, the hills, even the sky, and each facet of nature having a rich history,” the tourism minister said.
He further informed that in 2023, Meghalaya will receive not less than 15 lakh visitors from across the world, which is an achievement for the state.
“As Meghalaya continues to celebrate its cultural richness, initiatives like these reflect a collective effort to preserve and promote the unique artistic heritage of the region,” the tourism minister added.
East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner RM Kurbah, along with various officials and dignitaries, were present on the occasion.
The collaboration between the Indian Foundation, Asian Paints, and the Meghalayan government underscores a shared commitment to promoting and preserving the cultural heritage of the region, an official said.
