Shillong: A father and his three children, including a four-year-old daughter, died in a house fire at Mawlam village in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district in the wee hours of Sunday, a village chief said.
Etan Tynsong (42), the father and his three children, 10-year-old Kellarsha Khongkhiang, 6-year-old Bhaman Khongkhiang and 4-year-old Elimai Khongkhian were killed in the raging fire that broke out at around 1:30 am, Ngong Buhtip, the village headman of Mawlam village said.
He said the mother, Phanglang Khongkhiang along with her two daughters – Labitbha Khongkhiang and Elimon Khongkhian – escaped from the raging fire as they were sleeping in a separate room.
Buhtip said villagers desperately tried to douse the fire but to no avail.
“Preliminary investigation indicates that the cause of fire may have spread from the fire left in the kitchen,” a police official said, adding investigation is on to ascertain the exact cause of the fire.
