Shillong: Refuting Trinamool Congress (TMC’s) allegation of land scam worth of Rs 140 crore, Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister and senior National People’s Party leader, Prestone Tynsong on Tuesday said such baseless allegation only indicate the downfall of Leader of Opposition and TMC leader, Dr Mukul Sangma.
“It is not a scam. How can you say a scam? What scam is he (Mukul Sangma) talking about? There is government procedure and before acquiring it an assessment was done by the district collector, by revenue,” Tynsong told reporters.
“It is not that it was just blindly done by me or by (Chief Minister) Conrad Sangma but the government followed all procedures. Then step by step it comes from the urban affairs and then it goes to the revenue department and then it comes to the cabinet and then we approve it,” he added.
Earlier in the day, Leader of Opposition and TMC leader, Dr Mukul Sangma accused the NPP-led MDA government of indulging in a land scam worth more than Rs 100 crore with the purchase of 807 acres of land at Mawpdang Mawkhanu in East Khasi Hills district.
The state government had purchased 807 acres of land worth Rs 140 crore from the middlemen at Rs 85 per sq ft, amounting to a total of Rs 298.98 crore, while the actual price purchased from the villagers was Rs 45 per sq ft amounting to a total of Rs 158.28 crore – a difference of Rs 140.7 crore.
Questioning TMC leader’s motive for making wild accusation against the government in the matter, Tynsong said, “Why is he spending so much time in throwing allegations at the MDA government. I am afraid he (Mukul Sangma ) may lose the election.”
The TMC leader is contesting the February 27 assembly elections from two seats – Songsak and Tikrikilla.
“I am quite sure that from tomorrow till February 26, the leader of opposition will come up with new allegations against the NPP. But from February 27, he will go and sleep. He will not talk anymore about the allegations because the voting ended up to 4 pm in the evening,” Tynsong said.
