Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma has urged the Central Government to arrange for safe return of students of the state who are currently stranded in trouble-torn Ukraine.

“Received news about students from Meghalaya stranded in Ukraine. Humbly request Union External Affairs Minister, Dr S Jaishankar Ji to ensure the safe return of all Indian citizens. We are praying for everyone’s safety. May peace prevail,” the Chief Minister minister tweeted on Thursday.

Official sources said that the Meghalaya government is in communication with officials of the Ministry of External Affairs to ensure that the students community, mostly who are pursuing their medical studies in war-torn Ukraine.

“There are about 15 students from Meghalaya who are studying in various streams in Ukraine, though the exact number was yet to be ascertained,” an official said, even as the government has urged the parents of the students to provide details about the location of their children.
