Meghalaya BJP leader remanded in police custody for six days

Marak to six days of police custody in a case related to the seizure of explosives from his farmhouse.

On Wednesday, the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate remanded Marak to 14-day judicial custody for running a prostitution racket from his farmhouse in Edenbari.

Police arrested Mark on Wednesday night in connection with the seizure of 35 gelatine sticks, and 100 detonators from his farmhouse on July 29 after the Court conceded to the prayer of the Investigating Officer of Tura to arrest him.

Marak, a former militant leader of the now-disbanded militant outfit Achik Nationalist Voluntary Council (B), was arrested on July 27, by Uttar Pradesh police from Hapur district after Meghalaya police issued a nationwide alert against him.

The senior BJP leader, who is also a sitting member of Garo Hills Autonomous District Council, was on the run after police raided his farmhouse from where six minors were rescued and 73 people were arrested on July 22.

Meghalaya police have booked Marak under the Immoral Trafficking Act, 1956, the Explosives Substances Act, 1908, and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
